European Standard UNIEN14183:

Mega 2 and 3 steps: the operator can stand on the last step even without a guardrail (on demand).
Mega 4 steps (wider platform depth > 40 cm): the operator can stay on the platform even without a guardrail (optional).
Mega 4 steps (last standard step depth 20 cm): the operator can stand on the last step only using the 60 cm body guard (mandatory according to the European standard, optional according to the Italian standard).
